Our Transportation Practice Specialty member community provides a global forum for occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals who manage the risks associated with all modes of transportation, including road, air, rail and maritime, within the public and private sectors.

What We Do

We provide our members with networking opportunities and technical resources, offer education, and encourage mentorship and collaboration. We serve as an information resource within the Society on all aspects of transportation safety. We help develop consensus standards that establish recognized best practices that enable our members to more effectively manage transportation risks within their organizations.

Why It Matters

Our members are dedicated to preventing transportation incidents, the number one cause of occupational fatalities and a leading cause of injuries. Sound and effective transportation safety practices prevent fatalities, safeguard workers and promote employees’ job satisfaction and well-being. These practices also make good business sense because they reduce monetary losses from transportation incidents, demonstrate social responsibility and protect an organization’s reputation.

Leadership Opportunities

Go beyond belonging to the Transportation Practice Specialty community and volunteer for a position on our Advisory Committee. Or, consider running to be elected as assistant administrator, which, after two years, leads to the office of administrator. As a volunteer leader, you can lend your time and expertise to our many initiatives, while developing transferable leadership and team-building skills. Leadership positions within ASSP help members reach their highest level of performance, both on the job and in the Society.
